HISTORY OF THE BAND

In the late fall of 1974, a group of musicians led by William Tetrick and Tom Paridon met to prepare to celebrate our nation's Bicentennial and formed the Bicentennial Band. After the Bicentennial year, the band continued to play concerts under the name, "The Great Seal of Ohio Band." The objective of the band was to foster, promote, and stimulate interest in concert band music in the tradition of the great military bands of the past.

It was in Chillicothe that the inspiration for the Great Seal of Ohio was born (Mount Logan), and since the band is in Ohio's first Capitol, the name, "The Great Seal of Ohio Band" was adopted. The band is a volunteer organization with its members coming from many ranks: Teachers, Ministers, Engineers, Students, Farmers, Housewives, Policemen, Computer Programmers, Accountants, and Former Military Bandsmen, to name a few.

The band welcomes and encourages all musicians who desire to play, rehearse, and have a fair degree of proficiency with their instrument, to become active members. Helping to Preserve that cherished American heritage - the hometown band - is what we strive for.
